MicroArt Tattoo Camouflage FAQ’s
The answers to these questions apply for MicroArt only.
MicroArt is proprietary, unique, and unlike any other permanent or semi-permanent cosmetic treatment in the market today. It was scientifically developed to look natural — and avoid the many unpleasant or dangerous side effects all too common with other forms of permanent makeup or microblading. (50% of MicroArt clients are repairing bad permanent makeup done elsewhere)
Yes!
This procedure is performed in a series of sessions. Usually, a minimum of 4 sessions are needed. We request photos of the tattoo before scheduling your appointments so we can estimate the scope of treatment.
We have found the best outcome is for our clients to try laser tattoo removal first, before starting MicroArt. In this way, much of the unwanted tattoo is removed and we only have to cover parts of it or by using less MicroArt.
MicroArt Semi Permanent Makeup uses a single acupuncture needle that gently vibrates on the dermal layers of the skin depositing a custom blended mineral-based pigment into the skin to cover tattoo ink.
The procedure is performed in a series of sessions (4-session minimum). Your appointments are scheduled 3 weeks apart to allow time for the pigment to settle into the skin. Each time you come in, the color will be re-evaluated and the procedure fine tuned.
Your skin will have modest swelling right after the procedure but this varies from person to person. In most clients, next-day swelling is little to none and will be completely over in a few days but you may have some redness for up to 10 days. The color of the applied MicroArt will be stronger for the first week or two.
Everyone’s level of sensitivity is different, and varies greatly depending on the area of the body. Some clients feel nothing but light vibration while others experience modest discomfort. A topical numbing cream is always applied in advance. Lidocaine injections can be scheduled in advance (at an added cost) with our nurse, which will block 90% to 100% of sensation during the treatment. We will consult with you on this topic prior to your appointment.
Maintenance appointments are optional. Unless you maintain MicroArt, it will completely fade away over 3 years or more. If you want to keep your tattoo well camouflaged, plan on a Maintenance Touch-up once every year or two however this varies depending on the tattoo, your skin type, age, sun exposure and other factors.
YES!
MicroArt has been used to camouflage tattoos and other skin discolorations for over 8 years with amazing results on all clients. There are no know side effects and it is 100% safe for all skin types.
The goal is to match the color, over the course of your treatments, so that no one can see your tattoo.
Color matching is achieved through the series of sessions during which the color is evaluated and your custom color mix is fine-tuned. About two weeks after each procedure, the skin exfoliates and the color settles in so we re-evaluate and adjust in a subsequent session as needed.
The Color: Your certified MicroArt technician will evaluate your skin color at the beginning of each session and choose a color, or custom blend a color, to match your skin tone.
Pigmentation: MicroArt Semi Permanent Makeup uses a single acupuncture needle that gently vibrates on the dermal layers of the skin depositing a mineral-based pigment into the skin. We blend the pigment into the skin during each session until the tattoo is completely camouflaged and the skin tone matches.
We do not recommend this as lasers can lighten the pigment that we apply. MicroArt is your final solution and you will not need any other treatment after as we can fully camouflage the desired area rendering lasers unnecessary. If you are in the middle of a laser treatment, we recommend starting MicroArt four or more weeks after your laser treatment is completed — using MicroArt to finish camouflaging the area.
Right after your procedure, the applied MicroArt color will appear stronger compared with how it is intended to look long term. After a few days, the skin will slightly exfoliate and the color will become lighter. It is important to keep the treated area clean and moisturized by using only MicroArt after-care products – which we provide to you at no additional cost.
Do not wear makeup on the treated area of skin for 7 days after each MicroArt session.
Lidocane injections can be provided — if scheduled in advanced. They are administered by a registered nurse or doctor who we schedule to come in during your procedure. There is an additional cost for injections. Please call to get current pricing.
Lidocane injections are required when we work on hands, as they are the most sensitive area of the body. In addition, they are recommended for procedures taking more than 3 hours at a time.
When your skin tans, the mineral-based pigment applied into the skin will not change color nor tan with the surrounding skin.
We advise our clients to maintain a constant skin color throughout the year so that their MicroArt makeup will maintain the best color match for as long as possible.
However, some clients will schedule a maintenance appointment around the time that they get a tan in early summer so that we can match their MicroArt to that tanned skin color. As the tan lightens up a bit during the winter, MicroArt will gradually fade a little so that it will also lighten up.
No, salt water does not affect the results or how long it last. It will not change or fade the color of your MicroArt pigments.
